The Legend of Lucrezia Borgia

Reveal, don’t flaunt.

Fluidity of character and the freedom to swing from angel to demon, Mario Dice’s spring-summer 2018 collection was made for the assertive woman.

An undertone of self-possession and individuality, Dice tells the story of Lucrezia Borgia, a controversial and fascinating Renaissance figure. The illegitimate daughter of Pope Alexander VI, she found her fame and influence jumping from one bougie husband to another, from Sforza, to D’Aragon, and De’Este.

There has been a common theme of transformation trickling into almost every designer’s collective creative conscious this fashion week. The concept is carried out literally in Dice’s collection, with inlaid embroidered lace with small jades that become tromp-l’oeil corsetry, nappa leather belts, or can even transform into tops for hyper feminine jumpsuits. Long dresses give an austere impression with details like hidden splits, transparency and necklines designed to reveal rather than flaunt.

Unique accessories for the face, lips, neck pieces and a giant ring bracelet that orbited the hand seemed hypnotic and primal.

It is clear that Mario Dice loves art and literature. From the mood of this collection, he seems to be doing fine, creating rich stories of his own.
