The world’s most expensive chocolate eggs are the perfect springtime splurge for when rich chocolate isn’t “rich” enough.
The humble, chocolate egg is a classic sweet treat we look forward to every year, tucked into a basket left by the Easter bunny, or as a gift to give and receive in celebration of various seasonal traditions around the world.
A large chocolate egg can range from as little as €6-€15 in commercial stores and may go up to €25-€40 in specialty shops. Elegant decorations, specialty flavors, unique fillings, and tiny hidden treats, both edible and not, can cause a difference in price.
With Italy having one of the strongest traditions involving chocolate eggs, it comes as no surprise that many of the most luxurious (and expensive) “uovo di Pasqua”, or “Easter eggs” come from the land where food, art, and fine living are cultural virtues.
For some, the rich, dark chocolate egg exterior and the delicious surprises inside are enough of a splurge, but for those seeking a confectionery flex, we’ve pulled together this year’s list of the World’s Most Expensive Chocolate eggs.
Missing from this year’s list is the former “champion” maker of luxury chocolate eggs, the now-defunct Choccywoccydoodah. The English specialty sweet shop gained notoriety by breaking world records from 2012-2019 for selling the world’s most expensive chocolate egg at a whopping €30,000 each. However, despite having its own reality show, Choccywoccydoodah was forced to close its doors permanently in 2019.
